What does it mean if ones PKE light in the DIC stays on after the engine is started. Does the PKE (brain) unit need to be replaced? :confused

More information please

Is the PKE functioning correctly other wise.?

If so try turning the PKE off and back on again.

No, it is not. Would pulling the fuse to "reset" it help?

Try to pull any codes from the ODB plug and see what you get and post them.

Do you have an FSM? If not maybe I can help?

Sorry for the stupid question, but do you know the proper way to use the PKE system? I have been told by a dealer that this is the number one reason Vette owners bring their car into the dealers.

Yes, I know how the PKE system works. :) I am actually asking this for a friend at work with a 95 LT1. Neither of us have a scanner or an FSM, so I can't pull the codes. Is there a way to jump a connector to display the codes on the spedo? All I know is that when I went to start the car (she was having problems starting the car), I noticed that the PKE light in the DIC remained lit after the engine was running. I asked her about it and she said the remote she bought from a GM dealer didn't work and the "tech" told her that he couldn't program it. I told her to change the battery in the remote and pull the fuse to the PKE system to power cycle it. BTW, I am not sure what her starting problem was either, I sat down and turned the key and it started right up!. :)

In a weird coincidence, I had a problem with my PKE system yesterday. The two buttons on the remote seemed to had switched functions. If I pressed the hatch release, my door locks would cycle and the door button had no effect. I finally took the battery out of the remote for a few minutes and then re-installed it. The remote returned to normal operation after that...

That's normal.

Jump pins 4 and 12. As you are looking at the plug count on the top row four over from the left, that is #4. Keep counting till you reach the bottom left and count from left to right and you will have 12. On mine which I think is the same as yours 4 is directly above 12. Then turn the ignition key to on but do not start it. It will go through a self test. It will show H## for history codes and C## for current codes. Write them down. If you see ---, that means the test is over for that module. When it gets to 1.0 that means the test is over. Turn the key to off, then pull the jumper.

Post codes here for all to see and diagnose. I am curious to see what you get.

Thank you, This plug is under the dash on the drivers side just right of the steering wheel, right? I will give this to her and ask her to see if she can get the codes. :beer

Yes, the plug is located directly above your right knee as you sit in the driver's seat. Do that and post the codes and we will do what we can to help. There are a LOT of good people here that love to help, Junk, Jake, Tom, Hib, and many others.

Good luck.

According to the 95 FSM there are 3 fuses for the PKE that you shud check.

1. #40 Radio control head head. I asume if the radio is working the fuse is ok. Is the radio "off" when you attempt programming.

2. #43 Power lock. Again if the power locks are operating it's probably ok.

3. #26 PKE module.

I would check to make sure the fob battery is properly installed.

Sounds like #26 is the one to pull.. :) Thank you.
