Placing Jack Stands Under the Control Arms?

As some may know, unless I'm working on my cars suspension, I don't like the suspension to hang.

I'm contemplating on R&R my TH350c transmission and need to get the car up a little higher...higher than what my current drive-on ramps allow.

So, I would like to place my 12-Ton Jack stands under the front lower A-Arms, preferable near the ball joint/spring area.
During use, the A-arms take a lot of abuse, seems like a good place to support the car too.

Feedback?
 
I've never seen somebody or a garage supporting a car by the suspension (even not in the manuals). As there is no solid connection between the suspension and chassis I don't like the idea if your going to work on the car, to much movement in the body. Sorry don't have a strong argument why I don't like it but I just don't. If you do, support it below the spring/shock sbsorber.

I place jack stands under mine at the bottom of the shock when ever I need to lift the front end up...btw....refer to owners manual for jacking instructions..

I often lift and support my 71 in the front using the lower control arm spring seat area or the bottom of the shock.

There is no safety issue with supporting the car in that manner provided you're using jack stands and not the hydraulic jack, ie: you lift with the jack and support with jack stands

Ditto. I often did this with my '75 and never had a problem. In real use, the control arms actually support the front weight of the car anyway.

Finally made the front stands...maybe over kill but it's SOLID!

As you can see...I'm working in a 9' wide garage...very snug!

Like I said, if I can help no suspension will hang!

I purchased a used Transmission Jack (great condition)

Suppose it will be time to getting my TH350c ... OUT!

*Frame cross-member will be coming out
*Drive Shaft will be coming out

*Question...to access the upper transmission bolts, anyone know how much the trany/engine will need to be tilted down?
If I can help it, I'd rather 'not' remove the distributor.

What I've done with my 71 is remove the cap and wires but leave the dist body on place. Then I drop the back of the engine down just unitl the dist. body is about to touch the firewall.

To get the upper bolts I come in from below, using a u-joint socket of the appropriate size on the end of a long extension.

Question...just how much movement flex can the motor mounts take before they are destroyed?
 
The engine can lean back quite a bit.
but it's not recommended!
for a short period of time ,for example but don't leave it that way,support it.somehow,
jack stand,ect.
