I need your help on the following issue. I'm 6'8" tall and I am planning on buying a 2007 ZO6, 1LZ package. After much searching I have found a good solution to the height problem since I don't have enough head room with the existing seat. Leg room is fine. I am having the stock driver seat replaced with a Cobra Imola S GT which will be bolted to the floor and give me the room I need to fit well. With the 1LZ package I don't have to worry about screwing up the air bag system since the air bags aren't in the seat with a 1LZ.

When I called my current insurance carrier, AAA, regarding this modification they informed me that the car would have to be inspected by one of their underwriters to determine if it could be insured for comprehensive and collision due to this modification being made. (Ironic that it would be easier for me to get the unmodified "unsafe" car insured than the modified safe version.)

What has your experience been in making modifications like this and dealing with insurance carriers. Any and all advice, suggestions appreciated.
Thanks, Dan

I recently changed my insurance carrier to AAA and they did not want to inspect my '03 Z06 prior to insuring. I was sure they would have wanted to inspect the vehicle since it wasn't purchased new and there could have been damage to it.

If you did no seating mods to the '07 would they still want to inspect it?

I recently replaced the stock wheels/tires with aftermarket....wheels 18" fr and 19" rear with larger tires 275/35 fr and 305/30 rr. I went to AAA to let my agent know and she told me that there was no need to let them know. I was told to save receipts for the mods and "if" they were stolen/damaged they would be replaced as long as I showed receipts for them. I was told that policy goes for any other mods made to the vehicle which includes adding a blower.

These mods are quite different than what you're planning on doing to your vehicle but the fact is they are still modifications that they would have to pay for in the event of a collision or theft.

I wouldn't mention it to the insurance co. they are only making a big deal out of it because you are. I doubt if you ever had a claim, an adjuster would ever even recognize there was an after market seat in the vehicle. I find the best way to treat insurance companies is like mushrooms, Keep them in the dark and feed them a lot of bull****.

I don't think it means anything. I wouldn't mention the seat swap though- it isn't relevant unless you install an unsafe seat. They want to make sure you won't affect their risk tables with a bad decision.

So, I think they are afraid you may put in something that isn't safe. However, I don't think you are taking a cheap approach to a new seat. If you can afford a new Vette- then you can afford decent seats. If you say nothing, install the new seats, drive to the insurance office and they snap a picture-it wouldn't matter. They'd see the after market seats were just fine. There is no point in bringing attention to something and alarming them if the end result is the seats are okay.

The want to see because they want to prevent you from sitting on cardboard wrapped in cloth (ghetto-fabulous)- which would be unsafe!
