Ok I am looking to you all again for help. I have done searches on this subject many times. I want it straight though. I have the points system on my 73 Trans Am. I am seriously thinking about going with an electronic setup. Perhaps just the replacement to keep the stock appearance, but I am not really concerned with that as I could always go back. How about a whole new distributor. I am thinking about this spring putting on an intake, headers and new dual pipes. Just thought this might pep the car up a bit. Any thoughts.

Thanks in advance for all the views and the replies.

Craig

I was thinking perhaps an MSD setup. I here the 6 and 6AL are pretty good. I am not worried so much about hp, but perhaps driveability. Many people have told me that the points wont be as dependable.

Thanks
Craig

ok Craig...heres my .02 cents......

My motor....

.040 over 350
dart 2.02 heads....64 cc chambers shaved
10.32/1 compression
544 lift cam......234/244 duration (rump rump)
1.6 rollers
mighty demon 650 carb
air gap intake
4 speed muncie
3.73 gears
etc etc etc

Distributor??
Rebuilt and balanced dual point setup with a MSD Hot Coil....Mallory Pro Wires..

It runs like a mad man with his ass on fire.......
HEI's are great but so are original dual points if you know how to set them up...

Depends..........

They both perform well as said. Points need adjusting and replacement, dual point being a little more to deal with but not bad. I had a dual point tach drive Mallory in the 62 when I bought it, converted it to a unilite keeping the dual point and when I pulled and built the engine I went with a total MSD ignition. It's a matter of preference. I'm built similar to Waterboy with a difference here and there;
327 .030 over
12.5 comp.
Trick Flow aluminum 23 degree 64cc port matched
524 lift 234/244 duration solids
1.5 rollers
air gap intake
750 dbl. pump total MSD
Richmond Gear Super T10 4 spd
4:11 posi
Does it run, you'd have to ask others, I'm opinionated;) ;LOL
