Warranty Return Poll. Have you had any of these problems

I just got my car back from the dealer to fix a bunch of warranty items. This poll will give viewers which items are more prevalent than others.

NOTE: Select ALL that apply. You can pick more than one.

Craig

Perhaps I should have asked if anyone has ever had these problems, rather than if they had them fixed under warranty. Perhaps another poll in the future. I was talking to someone who is dealer phobic and his feeling was that he could overlook many of the items I listed above. Note; I did take my car in for all those mentioned above. The seat didn't get fixed though and I will have to take it back again. I know MsSchroder (Tammy) had mentioned that her seat back had given way in the past.

Craig

I guess I've just been lucky, Craig. So far, the only thing I've had to take the Z06 into a dealer for has been the recall on the Column Lock. I've have no problems with it at all.

-Patrick

Edit: I should amend that- I did need to visit the dealer for a part back in September. One night, I noticed my driver's side headlight was throwing out a beam of light to the side. Turns out it was missing a rubber covering to the side hole that I believe gives one access internally to the headlight assembly. I have no idea how it went missing- I suppose I could have knocked it loose when I was taking the shroud off the covering for the air-filter to take my K&N air filter out and clean it. The part cost about $4.00.

Patrick,

Did you notice a performance improvement in your car after the recall reprogramming? I sure did. There is a big improvement in performance in mine.

Craig

Craig, so your seat still isn't fixed? Could they find anything wrong with it?
Mine only did it once, and it hasn't happened again. I know better than to have them look at it, since I can't even make it happen.

It will probably go out for good in April, right after my warranty expires.

I've been lucky so far with everything else.

Really??
OK. that does it. I've procrastinated long enough. I guess I'll go ahead and take mine in for that. I've started feeling sorry for GM wasting all that postage on me. :D

Hi Tammy,

They did work on it. Actually they changed out the cable. After I got in the car and drove it ten feet, I noticed that the seatback was still not latched properly. In fact it was broken like when I dropped it off. I immediately made a U-turn in front of everyone and hailed down the service guy. I showed him that the seat was still messed up and moved it forward towards the steering wheel where it got stuck. It took him a while for him to break the seat free and un-stick it. (After the seat back gives way, moving it forward makes the seatback get stuk in a forward position). I had to take the car that evening as I took my son on a cruise night (see 11/26/04 pictures on my link in my signature; or look under the regional events for SoCal thread for Ricky & Ronnies now being open: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showpost.php?p=472446&postcount=54

I will have to drop the car off another time; perhaps on my 2-week Christmas break. I was truly amazed about the additional perfomance. I hope you get the same results. SOOOO the question is: "Are you going to get the extended warranty?"

Craig,
I did not notice any improvement after the recall re-programming. But in my Z06's case, the previous owner had already done some reprogramming using a Predator Diablo. (I was unable to obtain that programmer when I bought the Z06, the previous owner did not include that in the sale of the Corvette.) When the recall re-programming was done, it erased all the programming done earlier, and worse, that dumb 1rst-to-4th shift light now comes on.

As to the actual performance of the car, it seems largely the same as it was prior to taking it in.

Patrick,

That might explain it. I will be doing a comparison in the next few weeks as I purchased a Predator and will be programming the car AFTER the steering lock recall. As mentioned, I notice a difference after the recall. I will report if the car performs even better after the Predator custom tune. Perhaps i should open up a thread on the recaand additional performance.

That must be very frustrating about the seat. :hb
Cool photos! I hadn't seen that thread.

Will I get the warranty? If I have the money, I will.
I will have to see what surprises the tax man has for me this year, hopefully it will be good this time instead of like last year.

I do intend to get the warranty but I will probably wait until springtime.

I would be interested in reading the predator vs PCM reprogram comments.

FYI: My Transaxle leak was on the left side. After repairing it, they also pressure washed the car under carriage.

As mentioned I saw quite a performance improvement after the steering lock recall dealer reprogramming. Today on top of that, I installed a Predator custom tune, and boy does that kick butt over my new improvement! There is a big difference. The car is alot quicker (like I really need that) and it really hauls! The tune I have will NOT retard the timing if I lose traction, although active handling is still active. Today, with the roads a little damp, I punched in going into third gear and the rear wheels lit-up and spun and my rear end drifted about a foot. The Predator tune truly unleashed the beast within! Patrick, do you have a variety of tunes for your car?

Unfortunately, it was the first owner of my Z06 who did the Predator tune on mine. When he sold it, he kept the Predator, so I need to go get one of my own and start playing my own Z06 tune. :D

Glad to hear your results were so positive, Craig. Now I'm really envious!

I have been lucky that I don't have any of these issues yet at least.:) But when I first looked at my car in the dealership and when I took delivery I saw no defects. It was a dull and cloudy day but later in afternoon the sun came out and then I saw a crack in the paint on the left door, it was about 1 1/4" long and was on the curve by the top of door near the door handle where you can see a seem where the 2 halfs of the door are bonded. My guess is someone put excessive force trying to get in or out of the car when it was in the showroom.:cry By the time I noticed it, the dealer was closed so I took it back on Monday and got a runaround from salesman, sales manager and service manager. They said they would repair the damage but would have to paint the door and blend the quarter panel, not what I wanted to hear. They had 1 more Z16 in stock which I wanted them to trade me but wouldn't. They even recommended not to go to a high end bodyshop and not their own. I asked for compensation and was told they would only repair the damage.:mad Hows that for sevice? They got my money and to hell with making it right.
I also complained about the rubber trim around the back window being gouged from being instaled and they didn't want to do anything saying I was asking for trouble to remove the back window.
When I agreed to send it to a body shop they said I could get a coutesy car. I didn't need the car but the weather might get bad so I asked for a ramp truck to take car there and was told they would not pay.:mad
I had the car fixed and the bodyshop had no problems with the window trim and did a awesome job, you can't tell it was repaired. The car didn't even smell like a bodyshop which was very nice.
I will never buy anouther vehicle from Jack Carter Chevrolet again because of there Pi$$ poor service.:booty

Doug,

Not a good experience, that's for sure. I took mine in to a local dealer to fix everything on the list in the poll above. Unfortunately they didn't get the seat fixed. They thought they had, by replacing a cable, but it still messes up. I gotta take it back. The local dealer, Selman Chevrolet, offered to pay for a rental car at $32/day, but since my wife and I have four cars, I declined their generosity. They did have trouble with the fuel sensor as after they put it all back together, the replacement one was faulty and they had to keep the car one extra day. I guess they didn't pre-test it. Unfortunately for them, I had 1/2 of a tank of gas in the car. Well, at least it wasn't full.

I bought my Predator off this forum from a local guy who used it on his Camaro. I had to send it in to have it reset. Look around at all the forums and EBAY and you will be able to find one. If you haven't really done anything to your car since you bought it, there is probably no need for one right now. I was told that if I change the air filter, spark plugs or even plug wires that I could benefit from another tune. Currently I have a Halltech air intake. Someday when I open up the back end with an exhaust system and cross pipe, I will definitely get another tune and get even more performance. The Predator allows one to adjust some of the things, but it is a bit limiting. The detailed tuning (such as injector gas pulse width) will have to be done through someone else or Diablo Sport. There is a good guy at DiabloSport named John Mange who did the custom tune for me. Actually I used a local friend who knows John. If you get a Predator, let me know and I might be able to hook you up with some tunes at a lower than average cost. They are simply emailed to you and are quite easy to upload to your car.

I hope the next time you take it in they fix your seat properly and to your satisfaction, it's frustating not getting what you ask them to do and have to keep going back till they get it right. I went back so many times to resolve issues, I got to know almost everyone there in short period of time.:ugh

With my Dodge Caravan, I too became very familiar with the dealer's service department and their personnel. I told one of them that "Although they are nice guys, I would like it better if I didn't know them". Implying that the car was more reliable. Might have ticked them off, but oh well.

Craig, I don't think you have to worry about ticking them off, they have thick skin. At least you called them nice guys, unfortunatly I don't feel that way about some of them at my dealer. Once they got your money their attitude changes.
Today I had my car on a hoist to get stone gaurd put on and when I was cleaning underneath, I noticed on the front left wheel well (rear bottom) a piece was missing. A cap that looks like a wedge was never put on so I have at least 1 more trip to that dealership to give them a "hard" time.;)

Keep up the battle. We are all counting on you!;worship

Has anyone had issues with their emergency brake being rather ineffective?
I've heard that a lot and it is on my punch-list of little things to get fixed before the warranty runs out.
