I got about five miles down the road this morning and my vette started making a consistent popping noise from the carb. I am thinking it is a plug fouling due to old plug wires.
Any thoughts before I start digging in tonight??

If its a tinny metalic sound like marbles in an emtpy can, you most likely are backfiring thru the intake valve due to a nut that has come off of a rocker . This happened to me 2 years ago when i was 5 miles away from home also. (theres something about being 5 miles away from home and C3's :)

It could valves or your timing is way off...

-more two-cents worth...

-also could be a rare non-closing "Intake-valve" (ie: stuck-open, -maybe same is badly burned and even prompted by a dislodged valve-seat ring and broken return-spring? -and may be accompanied by a bent Pushrod). Remember, an excellent inexpensive trouble-shooting tool still used by master-mechanics is always their Vacuum-gauge, necessarily accompanied by expert instructions as to how to analyze/evaluate the various subtle particular needle fluctuations [be sure to always thoughtfully give us feedback as to how the problem is resolved]...

Thanks for the feedback. I found a bent push rod that I am going to change tonight and check the timing.
