Dumb ? I have a 1981 vette I just had the differtial done and was told I had positraction was that an option or did all vettes have this thanks

Your 81 corvette had factory installed positraction as standard equipment. I believe that it came standard on all C3's.

Here's another dumb question - what's the difference between posi-trac and a limited slip diff?

Not dumb at all

So far nobody has ever answered that question well.

Here is what i've noticed ( which may be completely false! )

Watching burnouts at the drag strip I've noticed:

Older positraction cars spin both tires together right from the start.

Newer (80's + ) slip one wheel for a second or two, then both wheels.

Once again I could be completely wrong on this.

Hopefully someone who knows can chime in?

ooh and yes.. all C3's came with Positraction standard. The only option is the gear ratio which changed from year to year.

"Positraction" and "limited-slip" are functionally the same thing; GM and Eaton Corporation own the copyright and trademark on the word "Positraction", so it can't legally be used by other manufacturers of similar devices.

Positraction has been standard on all Vettes since 1971. Prior to that it was available as on option.
