Ok, I've gotten my hearing back.

My radio decide it was time for one of those "This is a test of the emergency broadcast system" test and went into a screaming fit.

I had turned on the radio and it just started broadcasting a horribly loud tone. I immediately turned off the radio but the tone continued.

I turned off the engine and then turned it back on again, and eventhough the radio was still turned off, it was screaming again. :W

Finally it went away after I let it get it out of it's systems, but dam is my ears ringing.

Has this happened to anyone else? How was it fixed ?

Thanks !

It's about the only thing I HAVEN'T experienced! I talked to an audio tech I know and he said it sounds (no pun intended) as if a loop opened from crossed wires and you're getting horrible feedback (whatever THAT means)--like reverb with open mikes and instead of an actual live station, all you have is air at a high volume coming through your stereo. He suggests you take the car to a reputable audio center and have them run a diagnostic.

Or....., you experienced a close encounter of the 4th kinda!.... Do, Dah, Do, Dah, Dooooooo! Good luck with the problem.

What? Can you speak up sonny? :L

You know what, even though the car was started and running, could that horrible sound be the "Alarm" system malfunctioning?

I've never purposely set off the system so I don’t know if it uses the interior speakers or if there is some other siren. I’m talking about the VATS II 'PASS KEY' ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM, of course.

Boy will I ever be embarrassed if that’s what it turns out to be. :cry

Is it a Bose??

Hi , This may help you as far as tracking down shops that can help with the stero problem. Go to ZR1net.registry, on the home page select "general info", then select " misc. info", it gives a list of people who repair Bose. Check it out because most of the sites have FAQ's on diagnosis. Hope this is helpful, Tom. Oh yea, the Bose sys has an external relay that powers up the CDM box , I think, that causes trouble. I don't remember which site I saw it on. I know I checked all of them at ZR1net as I had trouble with my 90's Bose system.

Cool, I'll check it out. Thanks

Something like that happened to me a few years ago. Turned out one of the Bose speaker amps when bad. I used one of the repair shops and I can't remember now for that amp and it solved my problem - at least until the next one let go. I bought 4 amps from MidAmerica and installed them and it's been fine ever since.
