Question: Possible Tranny noise

Just purchased a 94 C4 and within the first 48 hrs. I'm experiencing a scraping noise (sounds like a plastic bottle being dragged under the car) but only in 1st gear. Once it slides (automatic) into 2nd the noise goes away. When I slow and it drops into 1st the noise returns. The noise seems to be coming from the rearend behind the drivers seat. I assume tranny issues, but thought i would throw it open to the group for comment. Any ideas?

If the transmission seems to be performing properly, I suggest that you first rule out any noisy catalytic converters. With the vehicle sitting, engine off, tap the cats and see if you can re-create the noise.
