Power Seat Needs Repair

The motor for my power driver's seat (standard, not sport) sounds like it has a gear slipping. The seat moves just fine if there isn't any weight on it but needs help while I'm seated.

Question:
Is the motor a repairable item or a replacement item? Is it even the motor or the track?

Thanks for any opinions.
Jeff

I don't know what to tell you Jeff, and it doesn't appear anybody else knows either. :L

I can tell you that of course the motor can be replaced or repaired, you can probably pick one up at a salvage yard for not too much money as another option. It may even be a simple problem with the drive cable. Have you had the seat apart to inspect it yet? It's worth a look. ;shrug

Not having much luck

Jeff

Your car has so few miles on it that the seat motor probably has only turned a few times in it's life. I know it's a bit obvious but how about a little lube and exercise. Yeah Yeah I know.

The cheap motors the put on seats and things have (usually) permanent lube that dries up over the years, a few squirts of electric motor oil (no detergents I'm told) may do the trick. Also brushes and commutators get dirty etc. Exercise and fresh air is needed.

Is my grasp of the obvious total or what?

Good luck

Pete

I know Pete, I need to drive it once in awhile so the whole car doesn't dry up and crumble.;)

Thanks for the thoughts on the seat though. The motor itself turns fine. It's just getting the power to the seat track that I'm having a problem with. It looks like they only sell the track and motor as a complete unit.

I need to get it apart to see if there's something out of alignment. I'm probably looking at a replacement though. I'm the only one who drives the car so the seat never needs to move but it really bothers me knowing it's not in perfect working order.

I know better late than never.I cant remember the cost but there are some places that offer complete rebuild services of the seat tracks and motor.Although yours is still new that might be the best option.Mid america offers the service but as usual they probably just send it out. With a little research Im sure you could find out who that is.

I removed, disassembled, cleaned and lubricated the seat track assembly. Thanks "Pete94" for your tools, help and heated garage. The motor and track work as they should. The cable drives also seem to be transmitting power to the gear box but that's where something is worn or broken, inside that sealed unit that I'm not ready to tear into.

I have seen the complete rebuilt units from a few vendors for $200 (with exchange). This includes the track, motor and gear box. The only component of this I've seen for sale is the motor for $86 but mine works fine.

Question:
Has anyone seen a source for a new or rebuilt gearbox? I've done an internet search but as of yet have not found what I'm looking for. They must get them somewhere for the complete refurbished seat tracks.

power seat repair

I have the same problem on my '94 coupe (driver's side)....motor works, but the seat won't move forward or back (and makes a sound like a stripped gear). The other adjustments on the 6-way seat work fine. From my little research, it appears the only answer is a rebuilt power seat track and the best price I've found is $160 (plus core charge) at the Corvette Mall:

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/corvett...-interior-seat-hardware-power-seat-track.html

If the LH and RH seat tracks are interchangable, I might just switch them....afterall, who moves the seat forward on the passenger side for less legroom!!!
