I have a '67 327/300 A/C car with a Powerglide. I'm curious at what rpm should the transmission shift from low to high under normal acceleration? Currently it shifts at around 3,200 rpm, but that seems/feels a bit high. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Difficult to quantify, i.e. how much 'part throttle'?
WOT upshift somewhere around 60-67 mph w/7.75-15 tire and 3.36 axel ratio.

I'd say 20-25% throttle.
"WOT"???
I do have 7.75x15's and a 3:36. I would think 60-67 mph in low gear would be well in excess of 4,500 rpm - which I can't believe is right or normal.

Wide Open Throttle.
Shifts up/down are given in line pressure which requires attaching a guage to the trans and driving it.
Information on line pressures are in your '67 chassis service manual. You have one don't you?

67l36driver - thanks for the acronym. Yeah, I have the chassis service manual, I was just looking for an easy answer instead of trying to interpret what I'm guessing are alot of variables.

That sounds much too high. From memory (car is in winter storage) I would say mine shifts at about 1,500-1,800 under moderate acceleration and 4,800 at WOT. You may have an adjustable vacuum modulator on that car.

You might check your throttle valve adjustment. It's on page 7-30.
Basicly the throttle valve raises the line pressure required for upshift as the throttle is opened and as a consequence the speed/rpm of engine.

Hey Jim randy @ Aurora Gas here, the guys on the B-J auction said it shifted around 50mph, what RPM soes that equate to on your tach. Also, can you help with :
Where on a powerglide are the casting numbers. I understand 65-67 Vettes all used the same unit. My tank sticker says my 4 speed 67 came with an automatic so I bought a powerglide on a skid with all the related parts in '96. How can I tell the casting date of the auto and is it true that the P/G should be dated 2-6 months before the car's build date. I have Nolan Adams' text on 63-67s but its not quite specific enough, any help?
