This may really sound basic :eyerole , but here goes. I've got a set of cast iron cylinder heads and an intake manifold that I will put on a shelf for storage. I want to put something on them to prevent rust from forming. I was thinking of just spraying WD-40 on them, but it seems to me that there should be something more "hi-tech" than that ;shrug . What have others used?

I'm not sure what to put on them, but most parts from teh factory are wrapped in plastic, with an oily film on them.

Contact Eastwood; 1-800-345-1178. They will know if anyone does! www.eastwoood.com I have been pleased with all their products. I know that they make several anti-rust products and rust encapsulators (in aerosol and brush on). However, what you need is something really basic. WD-40 is a good overall inexpensive product and may be sufficient. Even if they do acquire minimal surface rust it should be very easy to remove.

If you do not want any oily residue on your parts, I would suggest a vaponic corrosion inhibitor, which is a good way to protect your parts for storage. All you have to do is bag your parts with a piece of the VCI paper inside the bag.

In gun stores you can buy a product call Birchwood Casey Sheath. It is used to protect firearms. I have used it for many years and have yet to to have a rust problem even when the guns were handled or out in the rain.

Thanks for all of the input, as usual!
