Is there any preventitive maintenance that can be done to prolong the life of the air conditioning system, and what is the expected life of the compressor? Thanks........

I would assume that by not using the AC:D you would prolong its life. Although then you give up that nice refeshing cold air to save a few bucks.

Actually using the AC can help too. It helps distribute the lubricants in the compressor.

I agree, using the AC once in a while at least will insure a longer life. Without the lubrication passing through the system from time to time, the seals etc will dry and leak.

Also keep your condenser / radiator area clear of debris. And make sure your engines cooling system is in good condition and is getting rid of the engines heat. If it isn't it can cause your ac system to operate at higher pressures which will put more of a strain on your compressor.

Using the AC more often has one other little side benefit. It causes the engine cooling fans to turn on earlier, thus keeping the engine cooler in stop and go traffic. I let my AC run most, if not all, the time, for this, as well as the above, reasons.

All the advise above is accurate…that means even running the AC in the winter time for a little while.
