hey guys i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem. I picked up a set of headman headers for my 89 vette. The mechanic that was going to put them on for me measured from the exhaust bolts on the manifold and measured it up with the headers and said there was like a 2 in difference from where the stock exhaust comes under the car and if i ever had to go over a speed bump they would hit. He didn't recomend i put them on. I was just wondering if anyone has had this clearence problem. The car is not lowered at all. They were headman long tube headers.
Thanks Rich

All long tube headers will hang a little lower than stock. I have a set of TPiS headers on mine and I have no clearance problems; my Lakewood bellhousing hangs lower than the headers. ;)

I know of an '87 that doesn't have a problem. ;)
I doubt the '89 is much different but it might be..

anyone??

[edit: thanks Ken, you answered the call before it was out. Isn't there an award for that?]

let me see if i can pull a pic from my camera from my install and i'll show you the clearance from the pic give me a few mins to do this.

1 1/8" primary on stock manifold/shorty header and 1 3/4 primary on TPiS Long Tubes!

More to come! I will have a full write up about the Ins and Outs of this project! BTW these are USED headers not NEW. Just want to clarify that the finish is not what you get from TPiS. These are 5 years old. The front Y pipe came with the kit and everything bolted in quite nicely! :)

trouble with headers

I really appriciate all the advice and the pic's. I was able to drag the pics and make them lighter so i could see better and i don't c a clearence problem. I don't know maybe the guy just didn't want to do it. I will shop around and find someone who will. He did hollow out my cats and i put the monza mufflers on. It definetly sounds different. Again thanks guy's. For anyone who lives in NY there is a big car show tomorrow at the Rhinebeck Fair Grounds registration is from 8-12. Tomorrow is custom and performance and sun is antique. They had over 600 cars last yr. I will be there tomorrow. Don't know of i will pull a trophy at this one we are going to give it a shot.
Thanks again
Rich

:L Really Mic? I would never had guessed; I thought that was a new style finish or coating. ;)
