OK, I have some of the basic resources that tell me how many coupes, conv. were made etc......... how can I find out how many '72 BB coupes were made with: 4 spd., A/C, PS, green, etc.... ??

I have read on some threads here and elsewhere, people quoting figures that show this kind of info. Where is that ?

Thx,
Scott

Sad to say, you won't find what you're looking for. The records do not exist. The most you can do is to regress the known production numbers, but after all the math, all you'll have is a guestimate.

:)

If youre trying to find out how many 72's were built identical to yours Mike is right, I've never seen those figures either. I doubt they exist. About the best you can do, as far as I know, is probably take each option and look at production numbers such as those found in the Corvette Black Book by Michael Antonick ...

Of the 27,004 Corvettes built in 1972, 20,496 were coupes
3,913 of that total were equipped with the 454 (LS5)
1,638 of that total were equipped with the 4 spd. manual trans (M21)
17,011 of that total were equipped with air conditioning (C60)
23,794 of that total were equipped with power steering (N40)
4,200 of that total were painted Elkhart Green (946)

Yeah I thought so, but how come some threads (posts) I read all over the 'net, some guys quote numbers like they have real data ?

Oh well, I guess that's the way it is. :ugh

Oh BTW I do have that book & have used it alot.

Thx,
Scott

quick question though, I don't have original tranny, I have a '70's M20, is that a big deal as far as performance ?

Hey Scott,

Glad to hear that the link was useful.

I am in Columbus, Utica is about 35 miles away but I can't recall having seen your car around here. I've always liked that Elkhart Green color so I am sure I would remember a 454 coupe if I had run across it. Funny coincidence, the car in my avatar was delivered new to Dave Ball Chevrolet on Gennesse St. in Syracuse. I got it from a dealer who purchased it from the second owner (also from Syracuse).

Congrats on finding a nice car and I hope you have a great time with it !

Cool, I called a Corvette resto shop in Columbus, Corvette Care, and enlisted the services of them to evaluate the car before I hand over the cash. Lloyd Harvey met me at the guys house on Sat. Dec. 6, in the snow, after he gave the :thumb, and said "if you don't buy it, I will," I went ahead and purchased it, the rest is history. :D Yeah you wouldn't have seen it, its been in storage for 6+ yrs., etc.... I don't know when it was last registered and on the road.
Scott
P.S. - I've even contacted about 40 Chevy dealers with-in 100 miles of Columbus, trying to get original sale info, etc... No luck ;shrug I've also spoken to the last three owners about RPO list, etc.... nothing.:ugh

Have you looked to see if the tank sticker is still there ?

And here is a question for anyone reading this thread. Does the tank sticker (corvette order copy) for a 72 show the dealership it was delivered to upon completion ?

I've seen build sheets for late model C3 cars that had that information on them, I just don't know if they did it in 72.

Most of the car was in boxes, tank sticker long gone, in fact portions of the tank are rusted through.

If you register the car in the Corvette C 3 Registry with its options the figures will automatically come up as to how many were made with the identical RPO`s....:upthumbs

OK great, I'll do that :)
