hi all

i've had a few PM's asking how the progress on BABY has been going since I dropped her off at the body&paint shop so I thought I would update everyone.
The reason i've been so quiet about it so far is very simple, BABY has been there in the shop 5 weeks as of yesterday and NOTHING has been done to her yet.
I spoke to my body/paint man on the phone about it yesterday and he said he was going to start some disassembly and should have a few boxes of parts ready for me to pick up (to get out of the way while she is being worked on) by the end of the week.
The reasons for the delay on getting any work done to date are numerous. The first week the car was there we were really just analysing the car and deciding what to do with her. The second week we both knew nothing would get done as he needed to get 1 or 2 other cars finished and out. During week 3 we had a VERY bad storm here and one or two hurricaines touched down and that is something that NEVER happens here in Delaware - i'm not sure if we ever had a hurricaine at all here! Unfortunately, the storm knocked a few trees down and caused damage at my painters house so weeks 3 and 4 were 'wasted" as he wasn't at the shop at all as he was at home trying to get all the damage fixed.
New we are in week 5 and i'll stop in on Fri to check on progress.

So, after 5 weeks of missing BABY, we have gotten nowhere with her at all so far.
SIGH!
well, at least one way of looking at it is that it's 5 weeks of time that I wasn't able to cause her any damage myself. :L

His initial time schedule of 6-8 weeks is now completely blown to bits but I'm not at all surprised. EVERY single person that knows this guy all agreed that he is the best guy to go to for quality work and they ALL also agreed that he is so slow that I probably wouldn't see my car back until Spring.

oh well, nothing to do but sit back, relax, and wait until spring I think. I just keep thinking how good she will look when I do finally get her back. In the meantime it's hard to see that empty spot in the garage everytime I walk out there.

Maybe it will be a Christmas present.

As you fully realize by now Barry, almost none of these projects come in on time. Doesn't matter whether you're doing them or paying someone to do them. On target is a rarity.

Look at me. I arbitrarily picked Saturday, June 5, 2004, just to force me to work harder. I still missed it. :D

LOL
maybe. could be nice - but I wouldn't want to risk driving her home that time of year with the chance of snow and ice!

yeah, i know, i know. Still, i did have that tiny little voice in the back on my mind that was hoping anyway.
oh well....

Barry,

I told you LADY was lonesome! SPRING has sprung is what I predicted also. But like Tom said, it would be a GREAT CHRISTMAS present. Has Linda got you back to work yet?

Hi Rick

Lady can't be TOO lonesome - she has Beauty to keep her company.
I'm not even going to try to guess at this point when BABY will be home again - she will be here when she is done, that's all. Although, it WOULD have been nice to get some driving of her in during this nice autumn weather. It's my favorite time of the year.

Nope, not back to work - haven't even started looking yet. Hell, why rush, it's only been 5 1/2 months! :L
Actually, Linda is starting to give me some not so subtle hints and i really do need to figure out something to do for income already. Problem is I don't want to stay with what I had been doing and no real clear ideas of what I want to go into. Plus, it took me 4 or 5 years at my last job to get me at the income level I was at and to find another job at that same level isn't always easy.
I may need to take something if only temporarily until I really find what I want but I've been holdong off on that because I know what happens - as soon as you take a "temporary" job to hold you over (not a "temp" position) you kind of get stuck in that job and lose motivation to find what you really want.

Amen, brother. I took a "temporary" job 26 ½ years ago and now it's starting to look like a career..;)

Patience, patience, patience with Baby.
