After replacing the intake gaskets on my 1989, I decided it was time to replace both upper and lower radiator hoses when flushing out the old coolant. Finding the right lower hose took a few extra steps. All of the local parts stores carried the correct upper hose, but no one carried the lower hose. So they were special ordered, and after the incorrect lower hose arrived from two different auto parts stores, it was time to order one from Ecklers. It ended up being Gates P# 21727. This hose fit perfectly, and I was able to transfer the stock outside abrasion protector. Was actually able to reach the hose clamp on the water pump side after removing the drive belt using NO BAD words. :L

Just wondering, do they make a special socket for the radiator drain valve? Pliers worked OK but it looks like it was desgned for a special socket with a slot going end to end. The FSM instructions said to drop in two anti leak pellets which I did not do.

:L :L

That drain petcock and its little stamped metal tabs is pretty cheap. I always used needle nose or some form of pliars as well to get on both sides. The thing is, that its recessed in the shroud. Its a common petcock handle thats just awkward when its got the shroud around it. Those tabs DO bend and break off easily...The good news is that the whole valve assy screws out and can be replaced with a better, lever type 1/4 turn valve. Not fast to drain but much stronger.
