well, finally got around to pulling the instrument panel and only took about an hour to disconnect everything - dropped the entire panel by Rick's Restoration Service (Rick Stotler [800-651-1270] Joppa, MD) - speedo definitely needing rebuilding - told him to check all the other gauges while he had the panel - so he will touch up the paint in a couple of areas and rebuild speedo and anything else that needs work - $135.00 for the speedo restoration, and rest will have wait and see
 
Rick, one of these day's I'm going to have to do the same thing. My odometer and trip odometer don't work at all so I'm going to have to pull mine and while I'm at it I'll just send the entire unit out to get redone.

on the other hand, while the odometer doesn't work my car stays as an original 43,600 mile car ;LOL
