Hey guys, what do you think it can be? New crank, harmonic balancer. The HB doesn't seem to seat all the way on the crank. I broke a borrowed installer trying to get it further on the crank. From the end of the crank to the outside edge of the HB is 15/16" Is this about right or does the balancer need to be on the crank further. Peace Bud :cool

Sometimes the tolerances on the aftermarket cranks & dampers ain't right. And some of the keyways need chamfering/dressing with rifle file and some keys themselves are way too big ... got that tshirt. Moreover, some of the pro balancers require the bore to be honed. Suggest you pull the balancer back off and inspect it very closely for any radial deformation / linear gouging. Check for a raised "bulging" on damper's outer snout near where the seal runs ... especially adjacent to keyway. G'luck.

I Am A Moron!!

Hey Jack, Hey Bob, thanks for taking the time to respond to a fool. Back in the fall when I parked the shark I started taking off parts cleaning and painting the ones that were to be used again.
Somehow I switched and painted a crank pulley for an old Firebird that I built a few years back that I have since sold. Yep, I was positive that I had the proper pulley on this engine.
This afternoon I got out every pulley on the homestead and tried all combinations until I figured it out.
Sorry to have bothered you. peace Bud :confused
