hello all,

got the intake leak as most of you all have or have had at one time, the old
man and i descided to yank out the entire motor and rebuild it(102,000)
so i am sure it could use freshened up. we have gotten in touch with the
engine builder and we just have to figure out just what we want. he is a
very reputable builder you all from the northeast might be familiar with him
(Andy Jensen).what i need to know is what is cc's and valve size for the 85
l98 heads we have so we can start the desktop engine dyno build up. here
are our plans so far any comments would be greatly appreciated.

1)having all the bores trued up
2)boring the block .030"
3)raising comp ratio to 10:1
4)compitition valve job
5)bowl blending
6)new springs
7)new locks
8)new retainers
9)7/16" studs
10)guideplates
11)1.5 roller rockers
12)all ports gasket matched
13)zz9 cam
14)tpis long tubes and y-pipe
15)not sure bout the rear section yet but i will be free flowin

as i said earlier all comments and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
this is our first build up so we will need all the help we can get and it seems
like there have been alot of build ups in here over the time this forum has
been around

thanks,
chirs

How much do you expect to spentd on your heads? I have a set that is very nicley setup and professioally P&P already. Studs and RR's and your set. I can post picx's and a description if you're interested.

havent really set down and got a total price yet we will be puling it in
october/november.we do plan on some mild work but nothing radical
what would you be askin for your heads and would like to see a pic.

If you're doing all that work, get bigger valves - 1.6/2.02's. They'll match nicely with the intake and head work.

Also, does the ZZ9 cam want 1.5 or 1.6 ratio arms? I figured it'd be 1.6 since most of the performance cams do.

i am actually thinking of going with a diffrent cam my destop dyno tells me .525int&.525ex with 239 duration will give me a larger gain 412fwhp
@5500rpm & 438fwt@ 4000rpm

Are you going to keep the TPI intake?

You could go with the SuperRam intake and gain even more.

Like Rich said, I would go 1.6 roller rockers. Once you're that far into it, may as well go all the way, no check swings here! :L

"These were reworked about 2,000 miles ago. I am switching over to Alum. heads because of the blower. I will be putting them on Ebay shortly.
I have over $300 in the port/polish job alone. The valves have been unshrouded a little bit for more airflow, and round the valve stems up in the ports have been opened up and smoothed. Sorry, no flow #'s. They have upgraded valve springs good up to .600 in of lift. They have harden'd locks and moly retainers. These components are worth over $150 and only have 2,000 miles on them."

This is how they were posted when I purchased them. I never used them as I bought an engine with AFR 195's on it. I'd take $400 + shipping. You didn't say what tranny you've got.

the guy doing the building is a wizzard with heads.think we will be having him
do some mild head work.he should know what he is doing he is published in several
magizines with his 200 mph street vette. as far as the intake we will be changing
that eventually but just porting it out for now.eventually gonna need a custom
chip burnt so if anyone knows anyone in pennsylvania who does good work
let me know

thanks for the tip Moonunit. maybe i will run into him at numidia or beaver springs
this year and we can has things out

Dood, do yourself a favor and look him up, e-mail him, he's at several tracks in the area running a 10 second streetable white 86 (I think). The guy is a wizard, and to be so close and not tap him would be a mistake. His name is Jesse, tell him I sent you. He knows me as 86Moon, that is if he really knows me at all.

There are several guys with HOT vettes in PA, but Ski is THE MAN. You won't be sorry to hook up with him, he is willing to share and give advise, BUT, he sells his chips at a healthy price and does not have dissapointed customers :_rock

This could be the best advise you will ever get about your vette, due to your proximity.

moon,

visited his site he seems like a nice guy to know and have work done by
i will definatly be lookin him up. the motor will not be gettin pulled till fall
so i will have plenty of time to get in touch. we plan on being approx
400fwhp and 450fwt so i will definatly be needen a comp wizzard. to get
it all right.

thanks again for the tip,
chris

If you get a chance, talk with him soon. It sounds like you're gonna build a monster :cool He was the first guy I asked advise from (seems like forever ago). I didn't want to hear what he had to say, due to the cost. It sounds like you have a good plan, but he would be the guy tio run it by before you go to far.

Guess what, I ended up realizing that if I wanted to have a HOT vette, his advice was on the money. Guess what else, after I spent a ton of bank. I didn't want to pay what he wanted for a chip. I'm still paying for that one :beer Don't skimp. on the small stuff, and believe me $250 is small. It seems big after you already spent 8 or 9 grande, but you gotta pull it out, even when you think it's over ;LOL Really, IT NEVER ENDS :( ;)

Oh yea, I forgot to mention, I'm not sure exactly what your plan is, but, if you think you're gonna get those kinda #'s cheap, and on mildly worked over cast heads... well ;shrug :drink :booty :nono AND, good luck ;LOL It takes $ and careful planning :(

those numbers are with the gm l98 performance head flow values
with 1.94/1.60 valves
