If you purchase a car out of your home state, do you still have to pay that states taxes, your own state taxes, neither or both?

Also, what are some extra hidden charges you have experienced when purchasing a classic car from a dealer? I've seen some ebay ads where they talk about re-titling fees, paperwork fees etc.

thanks

You pay the tax when you register the car,(at least in Mass.) You pay the tax figured on Blue Book value of the vehicle. You also pay a $50 title fee. Hope this helps, as most states are alike on this item.

Yeah, your state taxes when you register it. As far as fees, should be the same as any other dealers. They have to disclose it to you up front so just ask.

I bought both of mine out of state.

Here in Maryland, you pay Maryland state taxes on the amount stated on the bill of sale. Of course, if it's registered as a classic car, there's no inspection required - so that's a small savings.
