Pure Stock Drags

In the most recent copy of Corvette Enthusiast is an interesting article on the Pure Stock Drag races. The fastest Corvette was a 70 LT-1 which did the 1/4 mile in 12.62 at 112.12. Pretty good for all stock including the tires. That was faster than an LS6, a 69 L71, 65 L76, and a 66 L79.

Last year, the new kid on the block, was an L-88 coupe. It was pretty exciting, he damn near dethroned the perverbial champ...a ZL-1 Camaro. He actually won the event, but redlighted to give the official win to the Camaro. Really made us Corvette afficianondos PROUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

The L-88 didn't run this year. Engine problems.

That's to bad. I want to attend this event, been reading about it for years. Last year it was the same weekend as Bloomington, unfortuneately.

I'm getting the bug to build another LS-6 to go have fun at one of these events.

Hey Warren, did you recognize the LS6 at the Pure Stocks? Was it yellow by chance? :L That was my 2nd year up there with that thing, shifting at 4000 rpm so as not to blast my #'s matching engine. The L88 guy is a friend of mine, that guy is a walking encyclopedia of 68-69 Corvette parts.

Hi Steve:

I've never attended these meets yet. I want to! I didn't know you were participating in them, that's great.

I've been hunting down the rare parts to put together another LS-6 for this purpose. So far I purchased a set of ZL-1/LS-6 heads, intake, carburetor, dual disc clutch, TI amplifier, still looking for a '263' coil.
