If you love the look of your car then do what makesyou happy... A lot of talk of decreasing the value????? Are you serious? A C4 will sell for 3 or 4 grand I don't think he is worried about what its gonna be worth. Besides he loves the car. Keep the original stuff cause you never know what a C4 may be worth in 10 years.

Are you anticipating that you will do all of your own maintenance and repair work after the conversion? You will have a hard time finding anyone who will want to work on the car, since there will be a lot of stuff that isn't the same as the standard repair manual. Yes, there are mechanics looking for work today, but what about the future? Do you have smog requirements? Will you have smog requirements in the future?
