What 21st century putty or filler can I use to replace the 40 year old stuff in this picture? The left area in red is a pliable sealant, used for sealing the body to metal to prevent water leakage. The putty on the right area in red is metal to metal and that one seems to be quite solid and non-flexible. Can I now use one product for both purposes? What are your recommendations?

I use the 3M strip caulk (from NAPA) in both places. Mike at MidValley Restorations recommended the NEW, COSMIC black windshield sealant, but I'm from the old scholl. If you like new gooey stuff, check with your local glass shop for a tube of the latest windshield caulk. The factory left me a big hole in the body putty right at the top of your big red circle. I always wondered where that wind noise came from. It has 3M in it now.
