I just got some hose and fittings from Summit for this Q-Jet. They gave me a fitting for the carb that replaces the existing one but the only way it'll work is if I remove the filter and spring, the filter is too long to allow the fitting to screw in. They also gave me an aluminium washer with this fitting, looks a little hokey because the ID is slightly oversize.
This is all OK I guess but now I need to get an in-line filter with this setup.

Anyone ever use this setup on their Q-Jet?? Is this the right thing to do?

That is correct; you will be better off than using the long small filter that takes very little to stop it up.

Thanks Buckskin, I just hate to start modifying this carb if there isn't a good reason.

If you use that type of fuel line connection to the carb., you have to mount a filter below it. I use the larger paper filter and I can see that the gas is getting to the carb. which is a good thing.

Short filter?

I agree that a filter inline before the carb is a pretty good thing. On some cars I have run a Russell inline filter in the line between the frame and the pump, so that I filter before the fuel pump, even.

But, looking at the photo, I am curious-could you run the "short style" Q-jet fuel filter as found on the early 70's cars? Just a thought...:)

Maybe, the inside of the new fitting on the carb is not flat as the old one was, it's angled like a countersink. The gasket at the end of the filter won't seal against the edges so fuel would bypass the filter I think. But if the filter would go in all the way, a larger gasket could be made without a problem. I'll look into it , thanks.

Dont use anything but a steel braided hose or steel pipe between the fuel pump & carb. for fire safety. Its under pressure and can cause a nasty fire if there is a leak. Filter should be between the tank and pump.
