I want to put on a set of drag radials on my 67 vet. Currently have 225/70x15 BFG TA's on American Thruster II 15X6 with a 3 3/8 backset. I would like to put a 7" rim on the rear and would like some advice on what offset to use and drag radial tire size. The parking brake brackets have already been moved.

This car has a 383 stroker engine and it runs 12.4-12.6 @ 113-117 mph pretty consistently and I think the drag radials would make it hit the high 11's.

Any specific information & knowledge on tire & wheel specifications would be appreciated.

The Stockton Wheel chart below shows how to measure wheel width and backspacing. The axle shown isn't Corvette but you are only interested in the wheel mounting surface anyway. You can also go to the tire selectors in the tool box section of the Tech Center (tab at top of page) to see how larger tire measurements compare with what you now have. The maker of your selected brand of drag radials should supply this info also. The 225/70 was standard on our '81 with 8" wheels and I have seen a lot of midyears with 8" Ralleys.

With a little time spent measuring and even creating a tire cross section profile out of cardboard to check clearance all around you may be able to maximize your rear tire/wheel combo without settling on standard production wheels. Stockton and others will make a Rally in any diamater (up to 17"), width and back spacing you want.

If you want to stay with wheels that match your fronts American Racing's Custom Shop can do the same.
