I have found out how to decode the Carb numbers but my question is about the v ery last number. For instance my carb is 17081218.
The 170 is for "after 1976" 8=decade 1=year 2=type of carb
1 = particular division AND the last number 8 is for automatic transmission.

With the last No., Even Numbers = Automatic Trans
Odd Numbers = Manual Trans.
QUESTION: Is there something different in the carb itself depending on the transmission used?
I recently changed from a Automatic to a 4 speed..Will this mean I'll need to get another Carb made for a Manual application?
I don't really believe so, but just checking with you'all for the real scoop!
(I've already learned that the PROM will have to be changed) thanks jim

I believe the only difference is the throttle linkage that has an extra connection for the TV downshift cable that goes to the transmission. I think it should work just fine for the transmission swap.

And some of the older 4MVs would have had a dashpot for installation on a manual trans car. Beyond that, I think "wish" is exactly right.

Really apprerciate the good info., jim

Seems like I really stepped in it when I decided to swap trans.....but boy! do I ever love driving a 4 Speed!!!
