I am getting a manual for my 88 C4, but until it arrives, may I ask this question so that I don't awaken my neighbors at 5AM again?
I am not certain how to arm and disarm my alarm. It is a factory alarm. I hear a strange clicking sound when it is going off -- together with the horn sounding. Can you tell me how to arm the alarm and how to disarm it?
Thanks from me and from my neighbors, I am sure! Happy New Year

Probably like mine - it arms if you lock the driver door with the key, and disarms when you unlock the driver door with the key. If you don't want it to arm - just lock both doors with the inside switch and close the door. The clocking sound is probably an alarm relay firing the horn relay.

The factory alarm is activated when someone opens the door without using the driver door key first. It's not too useful but it doesn't usually give false alarms. If you leave your car with the windows open or top down then someone could reach in and unlock the doors with the switch, sounding the alarm if it's set.

The alarm will also arm if you use the power door lock switch to lock the doors before you close it.

Keep in mind my experience is 84: Using the power lock on either door should always arm the system. If you dont want it to arm the alarm and wake the neighbors you'd need to slide the locking lever. At least thats the way it works in 84. Tony however mentions that his will arm with the key which in 84 is the same as sliding the lock lever so not sure this works on 88.
The key in either door will disarm the system. Also inserting the key in ignition and rotating one click should do it according to the manual as well but mine no longer works that way and I know several vette owners who have the same problem.

alarm

I have an 89 and the alarm sets if i losk it with the factory remote or push the electric door locks. It deactivates by unlocking it with the key in the drivers door or with the remote.
