What's behind the fiberglass in the center cargo area in the coupe and is it safe to drill to brackets to add a aftermarket CD changer.

When I installed a CD changer in my rear compartment area, I drilled through the bulkhead and installed a grommet for the wires:

Here's what's in there now:

Measure twice, drill once. ;)

Hot4u , are you refering to the storage area under the floor with the lid ? Or are you talking about out in the center of the whole area . The center cubby hole in the back is the factory location for a changer . You can drill into the vertical bulkhead in the back .It's thin and you may want to use a drill stop but I didn't . Cliff

If you're talking about the rear bulkhead in the very rear, I think it's the steel cross member between the frame rails. It will stop the drill unless you decide to continue drilling into it. It's tough, so to make a hole in it, you would have to be very deliberate about drilling. So if you're wondering if you will hurt anything, I think you will be OK.
When I installed my GM Cd changer, I mounted it per the instructions, which is the same as the factory installation.

I think the only thing that's under there is the fuel tank. So you'll be fine.....

:)

Just kidding, I don't know what's under there..but i bet the gas tank or transmission is close by...so be careful.
