When I pull the shift lever all the way down into the lowest gear position, the tranny SHOULD be in first gear, right? And it should not shift out of first gear until I move the shift lever to "2", right?

Mine won't stay in first gear. Shortly after the car starts moving, it shifts into second gear and stays in THAT gear, until I move the shifter into "D". What do I need to do to fix it?

You sure its actually in 1?

My shifter boot wont always let it lock into 1st

I had the same problem that Vader did. I had to loosen the boot.

Really? What are you referring to as being the "shifter boot"? I would think the "boot" would be the leather covering around the base of the shifter itself.

What is it that I should "loosen"?

I took the plate off and there are two screws holding the boot in place near the top. I took those out. And placed the tray back on. You have to take the whole console out to do it. If you dont know what to look for, you cant see that the boot is not tight. It was suppose to be a temp fix until I found a permanent one, but that was a year ago.
