I have some questions. WE havent had the 93 very long, so am still trying to figure out some things. I went to price tires for this car. In the discussion I told them what tires are on the car. He told me they are runflat tires. What gives. There is a spre tire under the car, I have the build sheet and can find nothing about runflats, the DIC does not show a low pressure warning light (I assume it would come on at start-up.) How can I tell if it has a low pressure
warning system ? Also, if it does have the system but it has a jack and spare tire and I dont want runflats, can I just replace them with regular tires? Any help would be appreciated . Thanks for the help, Curtis

Curtis,

To put it bluntly, you are probably dealing with an idiot.

He is thinking C5, 1997-up, which came standard with runflats (except Z06). If they are GY GSC's, they came in run flat, but I am not sure in 1993 that they even started that yet. I want to say it was '94 or later. At any rate, very few C4's have have the option.

Go on tirerack.com and look at GSC's, if that's what you have, they have pictures; I believe the GSC runflat says "EMT" on the tread wall.

Either way--you don't have to have run flats if you don't want them. If you like a good sticky tire, go with GY F1 Super car (ala Z06). You can even ditch your spare if you want (I did) and carry a can of fix-a-flat. That is all GM does for Z06 owners.

In 93, the run flat tire was not an option. That doesn't mean that someone didn't install them though. Since run-flats were not available as original equipment, you should have a spare tire. In fact, on the C4 you could order run-flats and still get the spare tire as 'deleting' it was an option for only in 95 and 96.

If you do have run-flats, then you really should have the low tire pressure system installed also. If you do, you should see the self test light each time you start the car.

What kind of tires do you have? If GoodYear, do they show "EMT" on the sidewall? Reading the side will should clear up what kind of tires you have.

Check your option code list (RPOs) also. This list should be under the center console lid or under the rear storage compartment lid. UJ6 indicates low tire pressure system.
Your build sheet should not mention run-flats - they were not available.

For you car, I'd recommend replacing your tires with regular tires. The GoodYear F1 D3 comes highly recommended and is available in your sizes. While you're looking at your build sheet and RPO sticker, see if it is showing ZO7. If so, you should also see FX3 for the adjustable suspension.

Back to you.

Thank you.

I think we have this all figured out. I checked the tires (Good Year) and they do not say 'EMT" on them that I can see. Apparently, as you say the GSC came both ways. Checked for the rpo code and did not find that either. Also the check tire pressure light does not come on when starting the car. So, it seems it was all a misunderstanding.
Thank you all for your input in helping clear up this confusion.

Curtis

Those of you who ditch your spares are certainly braver than me. Tires DO come apart at times and fix-a-flat won't put them back together. I have the remaining pieces of an G/Y F1 to prove it, and I am sure glad I had a spare being 400 miles from home. Even though the spare is a "doughnut", it saved my ass 130 miles south of Little Rock. BTW - Don't go looking for Corvette tires in SW Arkansaw, there aren't any! That was one long, slow drive back to the Little Rock and the Goodyear store! You could only imagine what was going through those driver's minds behind me on that two-lane road. "WTF! This procession is being lead by a Corvette doing 50 mph in a 65 mph zone!!! They wouldn't be able to see the doughnut on the front right.

I'm sure the damage to the tire that caused it to shed the tread was done prior to my purchase of the car and not by me (i.e running with low pressure).

Anyway, back on topic. Like Tuna said, who knows how many sets of tires have been on that car since '93, including run-flats. I could have bought them for mine but chose to avoid them.

Boss64,
Standard shoes and socks on '93 coupes and verts -WHEELS: 17"x8.5" aluminum (front)--17"x9.5" aluminum(rear). TIRES: Goodyear Eagle GS-C P255/45ZR-17 (front)--P285/40ZR-17 (rear)

ZR-1: WHEELS: 17"X9.5" aluminum (front)--17"x11" aluminum (rear). TIRES: Goodyear Eagle GS-C P275/40ZR-17 (front)--P315/35ZR-17 (rear).
You can check out the TireRack website for appropriate replacement. Real handy especially if you wanna change sizes.

I'm running on BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWs 285/40ZR/17s, front and rear. They're not a pretty tire, but they are good, quiet, reliable tires. They stick like glue and I can get 'em from the local WallyWorld without paying a fortune. (I just get 'em mounted and balanced somewhere else!)
Hope this helps. :w
