QUICK! Need advice - UPDATE !!!! I GOT IT!!! ;)

Looks like all your advice has paid off, I have found a 1996 Standard coupe for 16,900 rather than my previous "deal" for 22,900. It has 52K miles on it, sez it's immaculate(Of course ;) )

What should I look for to make sure it's all correct and problems etc. to look for???

Leaving tommorrow morning!!!!!!!!!! thanks in advance!

Corvette Buyer's Guide

Print out our buyers guide in the Learning Center at the top of the page. This may seem like overkill but it will prevent you from asking the important questions.

I'd ask for maintenance records, or a list of items done and approximate dates, if they have no receipts. Find out what kind of care it received when not being used and what was the longest period with no use.

Overall, it sounds like a sweet vette.
Good luck!
Heidi

Car fax

Run a carfax on it (you'll need the serial number). You can do it quickly on line and it's only a few bucks.
If the seller won't convey the s/n, look out.

I meant to say it will prevent you from forgetting to ask the important questions. :Silly

If I'm buying from a private party I always look at the owners garage. Is it organized? clean? If he doesn't care enough to keep his garage in order he might not care enough to do regular maintenance. Try to see how his other vechicles look also, good vehicle habits will show. Of course it's a good idea to check out the car your buying also. Good luck.

Boy would I fail this test!:L

Sounds like a good deal Idaho. I always suggest taking the car to a local vette mechanic if possible. I'm sure one of the members may be able to hook you up.
Good luck.

Thanks all, going to check it out in an hour, will report back. Appreciate everyone's help.

YIPEE! I got it!!

Well, thank you all sincerely for your advice, it paid off BIG! Keeping me from jumping at the first one I saw saved me roughly $7500, and boy oh boy, I had forgotten how pleasureable driving a "CFV" was, This is my first of this style. NOTHING like my 69 & 78 , it is such a enjoyable car to drive. But OH MY! Sooooo much faster :crazy

Thanks for your advice, 78SilvAnniv, Rain and all the others. It helped, only problem's I found were minor, and they all did not matter on the long road trip (180 miles) coming back home!! If you don't know this is my wife's xmas gift!! I am going to go nuts not being able to drive it for 2 MONTHS!!

Thanks again, and I will be a pest asking lots more in the future.

Regards......... Slim.

Your gift to wife, or wife's gift to you...and why do you have to wait for 2 months to drive it!? Is it supposed to be hidden?
Heidi

Oh Heidi you are such a troublemaker!!!!

Just remember Slim that you have to drive it at least every two weeks to keep the seals lubricated and the battery charged.

Doc

Troublemaker? Me!? (little miss innocent)

He says the Vette is for his wife's x-mas present, then in the next breath he says he can hardly stand not to drive it for two months!

I just want to know if this is a gift for his wife, or a gift for his wife that he can use. :D Either way, congrats on the purchase, Slim!

Better make that every week, just to make sure!

Way 2 go!

post some pics when time permits!

hahahah, I'm lmao. I can see I "need" to have her go to town at least once per week until christmas so I can keep it "lubed & charged " , that one has me laughing silly.

It really is going to be her secondary driver :love , keep the mileage down except for in nice weather. We have a Powerstoke diesel for the crummy weather months. ;)

Heidi yes it's hidden . hehehe right across the street at our neighbors!! NOthing like hiding right under her eyes!! :) :)

Should be a eye popping christmas morning, .....speaking of which, can anyone suggest a place to buy a nice cover?? Unfortunately we have no garage, so when not in use I will be using a cover extensively.

Finally got the pic downloaded.

Hope this works :)
