My 383 up and running BUT I have lifter ticking noise I tryed to adjust them but can get rid of the noise.
I purchased the lifter used they are stock OEM GM everytime I think I saving my self a couple Bucks it turn around and bits me in the rear.
What I have read the 1st Gen OEM GM lifter are know to tick.
The motor will never rev past 5500 RPM's so I dont need a high end high dollar lifter set up.
I running a LT4 Hot cam, Comp Cam Ultra steel 1.6 RRA stock size Harden push rods with guild plates, I dont want to change anything just new QUITE lifters.
But which Brand and what part # I looked at 2nd Gen GM Lifter But I seeing 2 diffrent part numbers which one will work and quite.
I read stay away from Comp Com R lifters hard to get adjusted in.
Anyone what brand and part Number that will not break the bank.

It sound like just 1 lifter is noisy go figure.

On the right side of the motor the the preload feels spongey to me.

I looked at these lifters I was not sure that they were are the ones to buy the price is right.

Sure it is not the rockers making the noise?
My Comps are a lot louder than the stock rockers ( w/2nd design GMPP lifters )

LS7 lifters are one of the cheapest ( and good to 7K )

I'm gonna guess the "ticking" you hear is not lifters but rockers.

Typically, with hyd. roller cams more aggressive than stock, you'll hear valve noise. It can be lifters or rockers and often its the rockers.

You're choices are:
1) Enjoy the more aggressive cam and take the noise.
2) Downgrade to a camshaft with less aggressive opening and closing ramps.

That said, if you find you have an issue with only on valve making noise, then I'd say there's a problem. You say there is a lifter which is "spongy"...can you be more specific as to the symptoms?

If you bought lifters strictly because they are cheap...you got what you paid for.

I needed the spider the lifter hold down bracket thing and lifters it seem like a good deal at the time but once again it was not.

So I need to know which Lifters to buy this time around GM or someone or anouther brand.

I end up ordering a set of Generation 2 GM lifters from Jegs $121.00.

I started to put the motor back toghether with the new lifters I already have notice they have a better feel to them adjusting the preload not spongy like the ones I took out.
The old set just did not feel right from the get go this is my first roller motor so I didn't know the spongy lifter feel was not a normal for roller lifters.
I done Hyd flat tappets many times now the new lifters fell more like tem when you adjust the preload now.
I should have it back up and running this weekend.

Fired it up today thats the way it should run.
The new lifters did the trick.
