On the coupes and FR coupes a "Radio Antenna Module" is used to combine the front and rear, in glass, antennas and I understand that it also has some circuitry to "improve reception". A control lead on pin 6 of the radio connector C1 goes to this module, as well as power and the RF coax cables. This control signal is called "Radio On Signal" and in all cases where an aftermarket head unit is used this lead is left OPEN, even if the Soundgate interface is used. What type of signal is it, analog, digital, on/off, or, and some idea of the logic behind any change? What type of circuit does it feed , AGC, active filter, or? It's function AM, FM, or both?

I have an aftermarket head unit and receiver sensitivity on both FM and AM seems to be fairly good, however I would like to clear up this loose end.

Thanks,

LEC

HI there,
This wire is a straight voltage signal, to enable the antenna amplification system within the module.
Just remember, the front is only for FM, not for AM. AM reception is only from the rear antenna.
As for the rest, the diversity antenna system is just that, diversifying the signal, to obtain the most correct and strongest signal for FM.
On hardtop, a standard signal receptive antenna is used.
Without this wire enabled, you will not have the optimized system working.

c4c5Specialist,

The Antenna Modules power source is the same lead C1, pin 8 , "Antenna Relay Coil Supply Voltage", that is used for a power antenna mast. This potential is available only when the radio is on. I'm confused as to why we need a turn on signal when the power voltage in effect is "power on". Could it be that the control voltage on C1, pin 6 tells the Antenna Module to supply the RF from the front or rear antenna depending on whether the radio is tuned for FM or AM? If this is true, and this is a voltage on or off signal, and you are using an aftermarket head unit, you would have a decision to make for maximum receiver signal either for FM or AM. However, a manual toggle switch could be added to switch between the two.

Your absolutely right. The hardtop uses a fixed antenna mast with a coax that goes directly to the radio. The convertible has a power antenna mast with a coax that goes directly to the radio. Only the coupe uses the Antenna Module. I do have a coupe. I apologize for that misinformation.

Thanks again,

LEC
