Anyone use their ramps on the rear tires like backing up on them?

Is this safe to do?

I use them on the front no problem wondering about on the rear?

Be very careful backing up on ramps. It can be done and I have done it but it requires caution, especially if you are trying to back a stick shift.

The ramps need to be 'very' slip resistant and you need to be very cautious of throttle/clutch application as too much throttle or clutch can cause a slight spin of the rear tires and launch the ramps under the car. Seen it done - makes a hell of a bang when the car drops onto the ramps and it takes some work getting the car back on the ramps afterward.

The same problem exists when trying to drive a front wheel drive car onto ramps.

Sounds like a good floor jack would be cheap insurance.
Jack up the rear and place the stands under the car.
Drive off slowly when done.

Tuna's right about the spin factor, don't ask how I know, just glad it was my old Z24 and not a Vette. My other cars are all front wheel drive so I had to adjust to it.

I use a rubber pad under the front of the ramps to keep them from slipping and just take my time. Oh yeah, mine is an auto so it's easier to control the throttle. Don't know that I'd try it with a stick.

I agree Guys...I'll jack up the rear.

Thanx for your input.

I made a set of four ramps out of 2x10's. There is a total 3 sandwiched together, with angled cuts in each to provide a nice transition between each level. I drive up on all four, and then lift the car. Makes jacking easier, plus when you lift one end of the car it seems that you get more lift because the other end of the car is lifted.

No way I would back up on ramps

I've done it several times but have to secure them to keep them from scooting.

Do you have any Pictures of your Ramps?
