My car's finish has pretty bad oxidation over most of it. Some of it actually has two stage paint with clearcoat flaking off in places! Most of it has regular old style stuff and it's oxidizing badly. I want to paint it but it isn't gonna happen for a while due to time and money constraints. I could improve the looks drastically if I could just get the oxidation under control. Is there ANYTHING I can apply to quickly get the top layer off and restore a shine w/out sanding and compounding?
thanks

3M "fine cut" rubbing compound would probably work. One stage less, you might try Mequires Scratch X. Just remember the rubbing coumpound is actually removing paint--but since you are planning to repaint soon, might be a good option.

I prefer the a Polishing compound to the rubbing compound. They both work well and do remove paint, but I think the polishing isn't as hard on the paint. That just me and there maybe no difference at all.

The only wax on the market that I know of that works on old paint is - good old Turtle wax. you know the green crap. You have to wax alot but it does seem to bring the shine up and its about the cheapest thing out there.
