The second to the last repair in an 18 month process I did to my car was to put on the aluminum trim rings on the instrument rims. I had them all on, and it looked pretty good, BUT I had to try to reposition the tach ring after I had just set the peice with the glue. As most of you can recall, the tach is more of a semi circle than a ring, and the aluminum curved ring was a little tighter or smaller than the frame it was glued to. It went "boing" at the bottom and smeared a glob of crazy glue across the bottom of the tach between 0-500 RPM.
This is the dumbest thing I've ever done to a car, even worse than the time that I snapped the end of a spark plug off trying to "index" the electrodes opening toward the intake valve. That wasn't too bad a fix because I was able to get an "easy-out" into the broken end of the plug and spin it out without tearing out the threads out of the head.
Of course the guage cluster is a restricted part, so it's not going to be easy to repalce because of the odometer. Is there a way to remove the glue without hurting the plastic? Or is there a service that may repair these things? I need a new face, not any of the electronic components, although I don't know if you could separate the face from the rest of assembly without wrecking it.
Any thoughts?
