Rear Compartment Recommendations?

Hey Guys and Gals..
am thinking about replacing my rear compartment with a new one as my frame is split in a few places, the door frame is split and the little round handles (odd name for them) have been gone for a long time. As we're seeing family in October, i was thinking buying at one of the normal Vette places then ship to my inlaws and then take it home. But.... As my carpet is old (20 years that i know it), am sure the color is not matching new color for a "Silver Beige Metallic" 82 CE. Any of you guys have a recommendation which place to order from to get the best color match? Or would replacing the 'doors' with my old ones do the trick? I cant seem to figure how they come up though, without breaking it apart. :ugh

I found one at WillCox Willcox Corvette, Inc. - Parts, Restoration, Help - "When you're not the biggest, You try harder" and the Doc has one in the catalog for only slightly more.. Any others YOU like(d)? Color matching wise and pricewise?

Thanks in advance for any ideas, thoughts, recommendations. :)

The Willcox part looks good to me. Order the 82 assembly instruction manual when you order the doors. The AIM shows how the frame, doors, hinges, and related hardware were installed at Bowling Green. Seeing how things went together often helps when taking them apart.

You can replace just the frame work around the doors and the large frame. You will have to paint to match and do some fitment of the frames to the doors and get some small screws or glue to reattach the frame to the doors as they were glued on with heat from the factory. You keep your old doors and carpet. You just break off the old trim and clean up were it was glued on you will need to file or sand the edges of the doors to get a nice fit of the new trim, do not force it on they will break. One the fit is good paint to match and install. I've done 5 of the 7 C3's I've had this way.

Steve, thanks. I appreciate that.. Mhhh. Now i know what is involved. Breaking off the frame, that i can do. I happen to have a small bottle of Silver Beige leftover. Might just work for only the doors and large frame outside.. I'll keep this handy and will prolly go with the frames only job. That way i can keep the old crusty carpet crusty. :)

Btw, looks nice what you did there!:thumb
Much appreciated Guys!
