Is there anywhere on line the instructions on rebuilding a rear on a 69, or does anyone have any.

Thanks
Len

Not that I know of, but it's covered in gory step-by-step detail with lots of photos in the Chevrolet Chassis Overhaul Manual; nobody doing their own work should be without it (or its companion Chassis Service Manual).

thanks

Thanks for the tip I don't have that manual but I'll have to get it if I wish to
continue my restore

The overhaul is very good but can be misleading whenit come to the tools used. Most people don't have the ones in the book but this can be done with some basic shop tools.

Check out Randy's Ring & Pinion they have installation instructions that are pretty good too.

I'm just finishing up a 76 diffferential, which is the same as your 69. Some tips are:

Check the rear cover for cracking near the bolt holes.
Mark the bearing caps left & right, they must go back on in their original position.
Check the backlash and pattern BEFORE removing anything so you know where the gears were set if you're going to reuse them
Make an engineering spec sheet, write down the shim sizes, backlash, any info as you go along so you know where you started and finished.
Search the web, there are sites that give info on rebuilding the differential.
Tools
Eng stand
Dial In/lb torque wrench
Ft/lb wrench
bearing splitter
12-20 ton press
Rebuild kit
posi clutches
posi oil
90wt gear oil
basic hand tools

Thanks,
I have a new cover all ready and really I think the front seal is all I need ,but side yokes have end play in-out .

If you're replacing the front seal then be sure to note the correct rotation drag in in/lbs so you keep the same setting. Used bearings are less then new for this value. Also be sure to use #2 permatex on the splines or you'll get oil weeping out over time.
