Hi:

Precision Gears are OK & can save you money if you're on a budget.

Just make sure that your rear is set up right by someone who knows what he is doing. This is the key to having a good rear gear change.

While you're in the rear end, mic the stub shafts for excessive play (run-out) & also check that they are not grooved. You might also want to change the clutch pack back there while you're at it. And, if you're going through all of the trouble breaking down your rear to the bare casing, you would be wise to install a drain plug in the casing. Makes it real easy to change rear end dope, as most Corvettes need this done.

what do you mean they are "OK"? Do they not last as long as other gears? if it's a matter of the life of the gears I would rather wait and go with the more expensive ones if they would last a lot longer.

Thanks for the help,
-Chris

Hi:

I meant that they're OK.................But, if you'd rather go & pay higher prices & be paying for a 'name', that is up to you.

Are you running an automatic?

Summit Racing sells Richmond Gears, amoung others. Richmond Gears are good, but so are Presicion Gears.

Presicion gears are used by alot of shops. And they are good gears for mainly passenger & street driven vehicles, although I've seen them used in racing applications as well.

If you're gonna be doing hard pounding Road or Drag Racing, then you may consider the Richmonds. But, if all your doing is street stuff..............the precision gears will work fine.

But, you can go ahead & put the Richmonds in your Vette, but I'd say it's overkill.

But, whatever gear you use, just make sure that it's installed & set-up right, weather you use Richmond, Precision, or any other gear, if they're not set-up right, then none of them will be worth a darn.

I would say that 90% of gear failure is due to it not being initially installed & set-up right.

Good Luck!

Thanks a bunch!! I was just worried that because of the much lower price that they were going to wear out prematurely. My dad has done this sort of thing before so he is going to be helping me while I do it. The only reason that I'm doing this in the first place is because the rear is leaking, and I figured this was a good time to change out the gears too.

Thanks again for all the help,
-Chris
