Hi!
I have a 2001 Coupe with just over 10,000 miles on it and the rear end is leaving spots in my garage.
My question is that even though it is out of waranty is this repair covered by Chevrolet or is this an out of pocket expence.
Thanks for your help everyone this forum is GREAT.

Warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles....which ever comes first. Warranty will trasnfer with new owner I believe? Sounds like you are within range of both. Warranty should apply to this repair.

Just found the rear end in my 03 AE Coupe, which I've had for four months and only 1,100 miles, is leaking as well. Looks like it may be coming from the left axle seal. Off to the dealer it goes.

Took my 03 in this morning, they replaced the driver side differential cover. It took about 3 hours.

So is this common or what?

My 2000 has < 25K and leaks as well. I’ve purchased an extended warranty which should cover the problem, but would like to know if it is common and whether or not it is really serious.

Personally though, I think any leak would be serious.

Welcome to the CAC Tom. Unfortunately this appears to be a common problem. My neighbor is having the seal on the driver side of the differential repaired on his 99 FRC with 32k miles on it. Many times this turns out to be a case of the diff fluid changed and too much fluid put in. If it's leaking from the side plate it's not a bad job. If it's leaking between the diff and the transmission, expect big bucks.

Thanks for the "good" news Leon. I'll let y'all know how mine comes out.

Rear End Leak

The results are in :(

My leak (S) turned out to be a L axel seal and the transmission pan gasket at a total cost of $409 which, with the exception of $100 deductible, was covered by Warranty Direct.

I am at 24623 miles but past the original warranty period. Thank goodness for extended warranties!

Thanks for the update. I have not had time to bring mine in yet. I guess I should find out the original purchase date to find out if mine is covered.
Glad that yours did not break the bank.
Mike
Ps: I wanted my Vett the color you have which is very simular to the color of my 96 vett but got the right price on the black one so I got second best.

Isn't THAT funny!!!

I was crusing in my black '99 Mitsubishi 3000 back in January when I passed a lot with a black '99 C5. I thought "Well, I haven't driven a Vette since I sold my '71 back in '82 so I'll just jerk thier chain and spend an afternoon riding around in a cool Vette."

Never had ANY thought of purchasing!

The Bowling Green Green came about because that dealer (a Lexus dealer by the way) acted like thier car was the only Vette left in the world and someone else made a better deal.

The color is a real fooler. Many people will tell me when the take a close look that they thought it was black.

Mike, I just read through this thread and it looks like you are unsure whether or not the mfg warranty is still good. Mine was out of original warranty when I purchased it but I was able to get an extended warranty through Warranty Direct.

I don't mean to seem like I'm on a soapbox here but if you can get one, you should look into it.

Good luck!

Hey Tom
When I went to get my 96 I went in to buy a black one. There was a green one parked next to it and I thought it was much richer looking. I have a freind that I have known since I was a teenager. He knows black is my favotite. When I bought the 96 I drove it over to show him and the first thing out of his mouth was (I knew you would get a black one.) You are very right in the right light it did look black. I still think it is the best color. A converted black lover!

It sure gets a lot of comments!

I see Mike that you are north of LA. I used to live in SFO, Monterey, and Mission Viejo. Had a 300zx Turbo and a Kawasaki 1100 in those days, so I've logged a ton of hours up and down HWY 1 and around Big Sur.

How I envy your geography! Sure would be nice to make that drive in the C5.

It's just a bit flat here.
