I had a muffler shop fix a leak in my exhaust. While the car was up on the lift, I noticed grease in the underside where the driveshaft u-joints meet the rear end. The guy doing the welding told me there is an oil retainer to keep the rear end oil in. He told me it is probably broken or worn out, thus the greasy pattern in the car's underside.
My question is: is there any special tools to remove the yoke from the rear end? I want to know before I take the car to the shop. I don't want anyone beating the yoke out to replace the oil seal or retainer if there is a proper tool to do the job.
Thanks for your help.
