I am going to change the oil in my rear end. Have read earlier posts on this and especially the word according to John Z. I went and got the right additive from the General for the posi-traction. John, in reading your earlier post, you indicated you used 1 and a half of the bottles to make sure all was not clunking. Why not just use both bottles? Realize it won't work right if you don't put enough additive in there. Will it also not work right if you put too much?

Thanks.

Quick question to the forum.. If the old sperm whale additive was so good should you even change the diff fluid??? I just pulled mine apart and an excellent source mentioned that it looked like it had the old style additive due to the color and how it clung to the gears. Just thinkin out loud here.. Since mine has been rebuilt (thanks Mike and Bill) it has the new style additive in it but really if you aren't having problems why bother changing it.. You can at best suck what about 2/3 of it out anyway right... Unless you split the case.... Dave...

Two bottles won't hurt anything. Actually, the new additive has been refined over the years since it was introduced in the early 70's, and has proven clearly superior and longer-lasting than the original additive it replaced that contained some sperm whale oil. People who pay the outrageous prices the "old stuff" gets when it shows up occasionally on eBay would be better off just to go down to their Chevy dealer and get the "new stuff" - it's better.

Thanks John. Appreciate it. Cheap insurance on an expensive part. Most of the things I have had to repair on this car are the result of poor lubrication. I figure the guy is consistent so this will be another in a long line of good things.
