I am almost done rebuilding my rear end and was just wondering how much diff. gear lube to put into my diff? Also What type of fluid does everyone use or suggest?

Thanks
Tom

hello, two bottles of GM diff lube and one bottle of GM anti-slip additive

Just make sure that you empty the contents of the additive into the diff first. That way you get all of the additive in and not run into having to syphin diff lube to make room for additive.

My mechanic swears GM sent out a bulletin years after these cars were made instructing people to use two bottles of the slip differential additive. Apparently it prevents excessive axle end wear.

so is the gm limited slip additive what should be used when aftermarket parts have been used in the differential? I install a new set of US Gears and an eaton posi trac unit, should I still use the GM fluids?

How bad was it?

Tom...how difficult was the rebuild? I'm really just a novice...I've done a lot of the basic work on cars, putting new pumps on, the maintenance stuff, brakes, etc. Never torn into a rear end, though. Is it something someone without a lot of tech knowledge can figure out with some good build books and the like?

Just wondering...might be a silly question. Thanks...Travis

Well travis, I am the type of person that says you can do anything as long as you have the resources. So, I do not think it was a hard rebuild, It was my first rearend rebuild and took my time to ensure everything was alright. it took me the better part of a day to finish. Just get a book or check on the web for some good instructions, make sure you have the right tools you will need, and I think you will be fine. Remember its a car not a rocket, you do not need to be a genius to work on one.

Tom:

The GM additive is fine.......you just need more. Apparently twice as much.

I don't know if his statements are accurate, but he sure knows Corvettes. I usually do what he says.....and it always works.
