Have a non -matching 1960 corvette..with a bored .060 327..and a cam that is 204/214 @.50 420/443 (melling mtc-1) the rear is 4.11 (non-posi)and it has a borg warner t-10 wide ratio.. thinking somthing in this set up does not seem right.. cam wrong for rearend? wrong with wide ratio? anyway thinking maybe if i switch to 3.55 then the car may seem like a better set up..now i'M shifting on a jump at a light VERY fast to get to 4th..engine sounds like it needs to shift at 2,500-3000 rpm's ( is that how these 327's sound ..like they aLWAYS WANT ANOTHER GEAR?) anyway getting to 4th comes up fast with the 4.11.. not looking to drag race the car..but would not like a minivan ,station wagon( or fill in the blank) getting the best of me at a light.. so just looking for 0-60 stop light to stop light ..(low end torque) Is this set-up OK or should I switch..lastly..on the highway 4.11 is a bit rough..i'm not doing more then 65mph ever and only do 25% of my travel on the highway..thanks in advance..sorry if the question seems dumb..i'm very new at this

Many years ago when I had a 60 I had two pumpkins one a 3:55
which were usually found in station wagons and a 4:56 posi. they are fairly easy to swap. Your setup will handle 3:55 just fine

A 4.11 rearend with a wide ratio 4-speed results in a very low first gear. 1st gear
close ratio wide ratio rpm @ 60MPH
4.11 9.04 10.44 3200
3.70 8.14 9.40 2850
3.55 7.81 9.02 2750

above MPH assuming about 26" tall tires.

From the above chart a wide ratio with 3.55 is about the same as a 4.11 with a close ratio. This is a good combination for acceleration and more reasonable highway cruise.

It should still run very will.

I didn't respond to your question about 327 sound. If the engine is built properly it should rev to 6000+ RPM without trouble. If everything is set up well, it should pull well to 6000+.

In the deep dark past I turned my 62 FI to 6500 frequently.
I turned my 65 350HP 327 to 6200.
I turn my 57 FI to 6500.

Yes, they sing, but they sing well! :D
