Ok I have rebuilt every thing on my 77, engine, trans, frontend, body and int. Keep looking at the rearend and not sure if I should tackle it. Can anyone tell me what I would be getting into? ( I mean swingarms, bushings, bearings) or should I find a shop to do this?

Be the general contractor...take of the trailing arms, etc., and send them out to either Bair's in Linesville, Ohio, or Van Steel in Florida. You need a lot of special tools, presses, shims, etc. to do rear wheel bearings. Not worth the cost to do it once.

OR...find a reputable Corvette shop in your area to do it. PLEASE don't take them to "Joe the mechanic" down the street. He'll screw them up for sure. This is a job best left to the pro's who do it all the time. Chuck

I am in the process of this myself.

I dont know what your skill levels are.But its really not that diffucult to do.Its just time consuming

As chuck has said having the trailing arms rebuilt is a job for the pro's remove them and send them out to one of the guys listed above.I used a fellow from florida called precision engeneering and thought he did a great job.I removed a mono spring from my car years ago and installed a correct style spring.I replaced all of my hardware and detailed everthing(I did not get the trailing arms rebuilt I just detailed them). Two years later I am doing it again (all the new hardware I installed rusted I am now clearing all of my parts)only this time I am replacing my third carrier and having my trailing arms rebuilt.

I would have to say the hardest part of the job for me is removing the rear spring. Its REAL DANGEROUS it under high tention and care must be taken to avoid injury. I had a new thrid member made up by 4 speeds by darrel I have 411's in the car now and allthought there fun they are just not practicle for me so I am going to 3:36's

My car is a 1966

Thanks everyone for your input. I think I will try to find someplace here in Ohio to do this work. If anyone knows a place close to southeastern Ohio please let me know. I have looked at this several times today and just chickened out attempting this one.
Also could someone tell me what type gear oil to use in the rearend of this 77 c3. Is it something I can get at a local auto parts store?

Use GM Diff Lube and two 4-oz. bottles of GM Positraction Additive; your Chevy dealer has both.
