Rear Seal

Geo,

I have a 85 and changed mine out last year...of course I was in the process of replacing all the u-joints and elected to change the seal all at the same time. I don't remember if you have to fool with the I-beam or not...seems that if you can get to the bolts on the rear u-joint you should be able to pull the shaft and replace the seal. If you're not set up to jack it up high enough to crawl under the car then it may be best that you have the dealer do it...hold on to your wallet thou...it'll probably be several hundred dollars. Have you purchased a repair manual for the car? I always buy one because it helps so much when you desire to perform some repairs yourself. Good luck with your decision...

you mean the trans yoke seal. you can have that done at any tranmission place not just the dealer. for most cars easy job, but our vettes need to remove the exhaust i bet and the drive shaft has to come out.

I don't know what trans you have, but the job isn't that bad on my '95 (4L60E.) The exhaust does need to come down and the driveshaft out though.

Mine was leaking from the speed sensor pretty badly.
