first, i'm new to these boards, but have been searching and reading for the last week through the volumes of information and opinions. it's been an amazing learning experience for me since this is my first vette. i've decided that my interior fall project is to strip the interiior components then sound/heat proof the cabin along with other fixes that were just not taken care by the previous owner. the ideas and products that were written in this forum have given me so much assistance. many, many thanks.

my exterior fall project is to put a front spoiler on the car. these seem pretty easy to find, but i would enjoy some opinions on the "pace car spoiler" or others that are relatively common in the catalogs. i've also been thinking about putting some rear skirts on the back to get rid of that "naked" look. not too overdone, but enough to enhance the back end a bit. i've noticed that ecklers has a set for '80-'82 (part #10301). does anyone have any ideas where i might be able to find some for a '73? if not, does anyone know how different the '80-82 back end is from the '73 in dimension whereby the eckler part could be fitted to the '73?

I have a 73....

I have a pace car 3 pc spoiler on the front....i love the look...sand and fit it to the front before you have it painted...it is easy to install but you have to drill holes in the fiberglass, that almost made me tear up a bit i must say...i have no clue about skirts....i think the front spoiler is plenty. The 3 pc spoiler is made to fit down to a '73.

Heres a shot of the spoiler...

when I bought my '69, it had a front spoiler molded in. I wasn't thrilled with it, because it detracted from the value of the car. It did fit well, but it was a like/hate relationship. I somewhat liked the look it added to the car (not thrilled, but liked), but hated the fact that it had been drilled and glassed into the body. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

As far as skirts for the back....I'll just bit my tongue on that one, as it seems to get me in trouble here.

I would advise against putting anything on the rear. what makes a '73 special is the chrome bumper rear end. Adding parts to make it look like a later model defeats the purpose of having a '73 in my opinion.

the rear skirts would not impact the chrome bumper.

Early sharks were missing it....

I think it looks great with the spoiler...it would seem that the engineers did also...they left it on to the end after '78.
It gives it a whole new bold look rolling down a road...and the biggest benifit is cool air being scooped up and blown into my engine compartment...i see all the benifits of having it as opposed to not having it....dont see it as taking away from its value...its a factory part...it wasnt installed to make it look like any other car.my opinion.

yup, the front pace car spoiler is a definite add-on for me. it looks great on your car.

now, i'm still trying to find out about some rear skirts that will add a bit of ground effects to the back side.

thanks for all the help so far.

right, but it would significantly change the classic look of the rear. just my opinion.

i appreciate and respect your opinion, but for this car, i'm really not concerned about retaining the classic look because in all designs there is room for improvements. i'm even not really worried what my modifications do to the value of the car. i'm basically trying to take a fairly sexy looking car and do some minor ground effects work that will make it more pleasing to my eye. it's akin to the ground effects that bmw makes on the m5 over the 540 - minor, subtle but it completes the design. i'll save the classic look for my '74 javelin amx since it's an orphan.

btw, i spent my teenage years in the springs - beautiful spot back then.

so......any rear skirt suggestions out there??!!!
