Has anybody recentley removed there rear spring on a midyear? I am getting ready to remove my trailing arms to send out for a rebuild.also replace the rear end with the 336 I purchased.

My concerns are that say the car was flat on the ground. How close to the ground or below ground level does the spring ends have to go so the tention is realised? I have a 4 post lift and I am trying to determin how high off the lift I have to raise the car to get the spring off.

Last time I did this job I used a two post lift the suspention just hung down and it wasnt a concern.
I hate to have the car on jack stand on the 4 post lift. Its just seems so unsturdy

Replaced my rear spring about 3 yrs ago. Did it on the garage floor with jacks, jack stands and bracing, I'm kinda paranoid about being under the thing. Left the front end on the ground to help the stability. Pulled the rear wheels. Don't remember exactly how far the spring dropped, but on jack stands the clearance was enough. I have out the back exhaust and that was what created any clearance problems, trying to wrestle the spring out around those(didn't take time to drop the exhaust). If your big block has side exhaust, be thankful. Good luck, hope this helps.

IH2LOSE,
I just changed my rear bolts but the procedure should be the same. I jacked the car up and put two 2x2 under the tire and let the car down to compress the spring. Then I jacked up the spring close to the jacking bolt on the trailing arm to take the tension off of the spring even more now slowly loosening the nut until you are free. I also had a jack stands at the rear of the frame to keep the car suspended until I had the bolts replaced. Sounds like it would work for you though. Dave.. oh ya I've cut 1x4 to fit in my jack so as not to damage the frame or spring b/c I know how you are with your's so I didn't end up with any scratches or anything..

Thanks guys I am removing the rear end and trailing arms so onces its apart it has to sit at that height.I guess It would be smart to put the front end back on the ground to stabelize it some.
