Can anyone suggest a shop in Southeast Michigan for a rear wheel alignment? Found a couple of guys who will do front wheel but they get real nervous when talking about rear wheel. And...which shims to use...slotted or otherwise? Thanks.

SIXt7, (hope you don't mind a C-3er jumping in here) I can't tell you of a shop in Michigan. But I can tell you, you'll need to find a shop with a "Hunter Digital Aligner". These are the best unit, when it comes to any alignment, but awsome for 4 wheel adjustments. Below is a picture of a Corvette on a "Hunter" unit. (sorry it's a C-3) :D Hope this helps in some small way.

Slim's Alignment Service, 16930 E. 10 Mile Road in Eastpointe, (586) 775-7765, been there for 75 years. they know Corvettes, do them all the time, and have shims in stock - you don't have to take your own with you.

Can't recommend anyone in your area but strongly suggest using slotted shims. The ones with holes requires much more work to install. I learned the hard way. Bill

Hi! Bill

I do the same thing except for I use the the double hole shims on the out side and the slotted shims for alignment. Then I can key (I use a plastic tie wrap) the shims together so that I do not loose any shims.

After your alignment, check the shims for a few weeks to insure that everything is tight. I haven't had it happen to me, but I have heard of shims falling out.

Great idea. It happened to me. Lucky my kid heard them falling out (no side pipes) going around a corner. Took it back and the guys ordered a whole new set of stainless shims, realigned the car's rear end, and gave me the balance of the shims for my "trouble". took a picture of both sides and use the pic to count shims every once in a while. Haven't lost any since but like the TieWrap idea.
